Ncuti was born in Nyarugenge, Kigali, Rwanda. When he was two, his parents fled the Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi and moved to Scotland. Before being cast in Sex Education, Ncuti says he was homeless for five months. He is the first person born outside the UK to play the Doctor, and the first person born after the classic series ended to play the part.
