Since Thapelo's passing, his family has campaigned for police to investigate charges of murder.

Goran spent a period in the 1990s in the Yugoslavian, and then Croatian, Army, and defended his hometown of Sibenik during the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Goran has a large scar on his stomach following gastric ulcer surgery. In 1999, People magazine named him Sexiest Import; the following year he was named by the magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world. His wife Eva is the daughter of Croatian director Antun Vrdoljak.
