In the music world, he can also be seen in the video for Paul McCartney's Take It Away (1982) and Suede's Attitude (2002 - in drag!). You can also hear him reading Shakespeare Sonnet No.147, When Love Speaks, here, and a clip of dialogue from Nineteen Eighty-Four can be heard at the start of the Manic Street Preachers' Faster (1994). John was married four times - his first marriage was to actress Annette Robinson (who was in The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve), while his fourth marriage was to casting director Anwen Rees-Myers. In 1983, his then girlfriend of 16 years, the French model Marie-Lise Volpeliere-Pierrot, was killed in a horse riding accident.  John's brother Michael later became known as Brother Anselm, a Benedictine monk and writer at Glenstal Abbey in Ireland. In 2015, John announced he was suffering from early-stage pancreatic cancer, but later confirmed he was in remission. In 2015, John reprised the role of the War Doctor in the first of a series of audio adventures. Apparently, he holds the record for the most amount of on-screen character deaths in film history (at least 47; followed by Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price and Sean Bean).

The show has such a huge fan base and I was bowled away by the amount of letters I got sent. It's a really lovely thing to be a part of. He has provided the voice of Mr Pricklepants in the Toy Story franchise since 2010, and regularly played Sir Malcolm Murray in Penny Dreadful (2014-16), but he is best known for his two cinema outings as 007 James Bond in The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989).
Facts
Timothy was always destined to play Bond: he was first offered the part in 1968 when Sean Connery left, but he turned it down as he believed he was too young at 24 (he probably was!). He was offered it again in 1980 but said no as he disliked the comedic direction the franchise had taken. He was offered it a third time in 1985 when Roger Moore announced he was leaving the role, but declined due to other commitments. Pierce Brosnan was then offered the role, but couldn't get out of his Remington Steele contract, so Timothy was offered it a second time, by which point he was free to take it up - almost 20 years after first being asked! In the end, Brosnan took over from Timothy with 1995's GoldenEye. Here's Timothy in a Bond-themed commercial for Lark cigarettes. Timothy was the partner of actress Vanessa Redgrave between 1971-86; in 1997 he had a son, Alexander, with Russian musician Oksana Grigorieva. In March 2015, the 17-year-old Alexander threw a raucous party at his father's Hollywood home resulting in the Los Angeles police being called out.
