Art - born Athar ul-Haque Malik - is married to fellow actor Gina Rowe. After his 1980s success, Art admitted that he went off the rails, drinking heavily and falling into severe debt (by 1993 he had debts amounting to £87,000). In 1996, Art's wife Gina was fined £350 after she admitted growing cannabis plants at their home. In 2002, Art's daughter Jessica held a 21st birthday party at his house, only for tragedy to strike when her boyfriend Dan Williams was found drowned in the outdoor swimming pool.
