As well as being an actor, Tim is also Count Bentinck, the 12th Earl of Portland (a title he inherited in 1997). Although Tim took his seat in the House of Lords, he did not speak there before losing the right to do so under the House of Lords Act 1999. In 1732, Tim's ancestor William Bentinck (Baron Bentinck of the Duchy of Guelders) was made a Count of the Holy Roman Empire, a title still held by Tim but which cannot be used in the UK. Tim's wife is Judy Bentinck, a one-time costume designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company and now a bespoke milliner. Tim's sister Anna Bentinck is also an actor, while his father Henry Bentinck (the 11th Earl of Portland) worked for a time as a TV producer (including for the BBC's Today programme), and claimed to have coined the "Mr Kipling makes exceedingly good cakes" advertising catchphrase. Tim and Judy's son William (Viscount Woodstock) is a social entrepreneur who founded Levantine Links and Ragged University. Tim appeared on Celebrity Mastermind in 2013 with the specialist subject of Winnie the Pooh, while his voice may also be familiar to Londoners saying "Mind the gap" on the Underground's Piccadilly line!
