Anthony's mother was 1950s/60s actress Helen Shingler (perhaps best known for playing Madame Maigret in the early 1960s and Kathleen Shaw in Couples in the late 1970s), while his brother is actor Murray Head, who originated the role of Judas in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. His daughters are Emily Head (best known as Carli in The Inbetweeners) and Daisy Head. Anthony is also an accomplished singer, and in 1983 was lead singer in a band called Two Way, which released an EP called Face in the Window (listen to the track All Dressed Up). That's not his only musical link either - in 1982 he recorded vocals for Chris De Burgh's album The Getaway, and in 2002 collaborated with George Sarah on Music for Elevators. In 2014 he released a solo album called Staring at the Sun, comprising new work and covers. In the 1980s Anthony appeared in a series of TV commercials for Nescafe Gold Blend (Taster's Choice in the US). Anthony is an ovopescolactarian (meaning he eats fish but no other meat, although he does eggs and milk products). Anthony auditioned for the role of the Eighth Doctor in 1996.
